From the recording Before Daylight in the Morning
I learned this first jig from Bren Newman (1918-2011) of Boyd's Cove, Notre Dame Bay, during one of my many visits with him when I was starting out with the accordion. The last two jigs are from the playing of another Bren, Bren Tobin (1922-1982) of Joe Batt's Arm, Fogo Island. At the 2015 Brimstone Head Folk Festival, a festival volunteer named Pat Donahue kindly gave me an old tape of Tobin's playing. Thanks to the people who had the foresight to bring their tape recorders to house parties and dances, I've been lucky enough to hear several great players from Notre Dame Bay who came before my time.
